Emergency repair of the catalyst wastewater line

In early July, a pipeline leak at the Second Wastewater Treatment Facility severely disrupted plant operations, necessitating immediate intervention to ensure normal production. Upon receiving the notification, the pressure‑sealed leak‑repair team from the Equipment Research Institute promptly arrived on site and swiftly conducted an assessment of the leak location, process conditions, and the construction environment. It was determined that, during earth‑moving operations to extract soil for flood‑control embankment construction adjacent to the facility’s main gate, an excavator inadvertently damaged the catalyst‑treated wastewater pipeline, creating a 300 mm × 300 mm pit. Due to continuous rainfall in recent days, the wastewater ponds within the catalyst treatment system were all at elevated levels; with the pipeline compromised, discharge to the municipal wastewater treatment plant became impossible, forcing several catalytic units to shut down. Following the incident, officials from Yunxi District and the Catalyst Branch Company arrived on site and expressed their utmost concern.
The leaking pipeline is situated on a hillside. Following previous soil‑excavation activities and the scouring action of the leaked wastewater, the site has become extremely muddy. After assessing the site conditions, the operations team promptly developed a leak‑sealing plan and immediately commenced work.
The work site was characterized by harsh conditions, with temperatures soaring above 30 degrees Celsius. The sweltering heat subtly heightened the difficulty of the task, leaving workers drenched in sweat. After an eight-hour continuous effort, the pressurized leak‑stopping team finally sealed the leak at midnight, enabling the production unit to resume operations promptly and mitigating economic losses.
