The “Cleaning Corps’” Maintenance Battle

The Changling area recently “Became popular”

Maintenance blockbuster “A blowout” erupts

Overwhelmed with tasks; unable to keep up.

I was hyped the whole month.

During the shutdown of Changlian for maintenance and defect rectification, the cleaning site at the Design Research Institute presented a lively and bustling scene. In this round of accompanying shutdowns and repairs, the original plan included a total of… Four systems, one waste‑heat boiler, 20 heat exchangers, and 74 tower internals all require cleaning, yet the time allotted for this work is extremely tight. To avoid delaying the emergency repair schedule, we have been in a state of “combat readiness” since before the shutdown, meticulously preparing materials, ensuring equipment integrity, and providing training and instruction to the construction team. Status.

Pillar of the family ——Xu Guoping

As the chief coordinator of the overhaul, Xu Guoping has been fully dedicated to the maintenance project since the start of construction, maintaining a frontline presence at all times. He has rigorously enforced construction safety, exercised strict quality control, and proactively coordinated to resolve the various issues that arose during the work.

During the cleaning process, many heat exchanger tube bundles were clogged with sticky oil sludge. Despite everyone’s strenuous efforts to clear the blockages, as soon as the high-pressure nozzles were removed, the tubes would quickly become fouled again—turns out the sludge had merely been pushed aside, not fully dislodged. What could be done? Xu Guoping, Lu Hao, and others began to ponder: if that was the case, why not combine chemical cleaning with high-pressure washing? When faced with such heat exchangers, we first soak them in chemical agents, then follow up with high-pressure cleaning—repeating the process if necessary. While this approach effectively doubles the number of steps, the efficiency of the high-pressure cleaning… On the contrary, it has improved, and the cleaning quality is now assured. More importantly, while addressing on-site construction challenges, this process has also fostered innovative thinking among all team members.

At the maintenance site's “The Chief Steward” — Huang Zhenqiu

Master Huang is in charge of high-pressure cleaning. Since the maintenance began, in order to stay on schedule, he has led the crew to camp at the site, working until two or three in the morning each night and getting less than five hours of sleep before reporting back promptly at first light the next day. “Combat.”

Safety! Quality! Schedule! Master Huang was on site, constantly reminding everyone; his voice had grown hoarse, yet he continued to give instructions in that raspy tone.

High-pressure cleaning is a… “Dirty” work—every worker’s face was smeared with grease, yet not a single one complained. Their fearless, no‑holds‑barred spirit in tackling the toughest jobs shone brightly. Then, one day, they received another urgent assignment: to clear a completely clogged heat exchanger at the desulfurization unit within 24 hours. Everyone drew in a sharp breath, but orders were orders—with no room for retreat. Master Huang, as if injected with adrenaline, worked nonstop, day and night; when tired, he’d snatch a quick nap in his truck, and when hungry, he’d grab a couple of bites from a boxed meal. They gave it their all!

“The Post-90s” Cleaning Star — Lu Hao

As the youngest head of chemical cleaning, Lu Hao was responsible for drafting the technical plan and coordinating on-site activities for this shutdown‑and‑maintenance outage. On the afternoon of March 23, upon receiving notification from the technical supervisor of Refinery Unit One that the wastewater steam‑stripping system was ready for chemical cleaning, Lu Hao promptly mobilized personnel to the site, ensuring that permit issuance, water and power connections were all carried out in an orderly and well‑coordinated manner.

Once chemical cleaning gets underway, it can’t be stopped. Led by Lu Hao, the team worked from seven in the evening until two in the morning. Adding chemicals is physically demanding, and doing it in the dead of night makes it even tougher—but the young technicians remained highly motivated, completing the system’s cleaning in a single night.

After the system was commissioned, the Technical Quality Department called to report: “The cleaning results this time are excellent—there isn’t even a trace of odor!” The vapor-phase passivation of the hydrotreating wastewater stripping system in Refining Unit No. 2 was an innovative project undertaken by the Cleaning Branch; now it’s time to evaluate the outcomes. Cleaning… The “Three Musketeers”—Xu Guoping, Lu Hao, and Li Jue—set aside the exhaustion of days of nonstop overtime and pulled another all-nighter!

“Brothers in Arms” — Nie Jinsong, Pu Yuqiang

This battle‑ready team isn’t made up of young lads alone; several seasoned veterans, all nearing fifty, are the backbone of our squad.

Their passion for work is in no way inferior to that of younger colleagues; they showcase a wide range of skills, serving as textbook‑perfect role models for the younger generation.

Nie Jinsong and Pu Yuqiang both said: “Maintenance is a battlefield, and those who go into the fray are like brothers.” Though maintenance tasks are numerous, varied, demanding, and weighty, in the midst of the hustle and bustle, one nonetheless finds a fulfilling sense of joy.

Enthusiasm must not wane.

Time cannot be delayed.

Quality is non-negotiable.

Safety must never be taken lightly.
